Safety and Occupational Health Specialist

Major duties for this position include but are not limited to, the following:
Conducts training in wide range of complex occupational health subject matter at basic and advanced levels. Conducts equipment and process demonstrations in laboratory, training site, other field-staged locations. Teaches occupational health hazard recognition, assessment, documentation, and abatement assistance. Teaches and demonstrates correct use of testing and monitoring instruments used by health and safety inspectors. Clearly communicates knowledge of OSHA laws, standards, regulations, compliance policies and procedures. Articulates current knowledge of occupational health concepts, principles, and best practices. Serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in performance and oversight of developmental work as required. Serves as project or task force leader when assigned by manager. Conducts training using curriculum developed using the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) model ADDIE. Consistently applies proper procedure in revising or changing curriculum. Conveys current expert knowledge of general industry operations, installations, equipment and work practices. Advises management, supervisors, and other staff in specific areas of expertise. Applies research skills using paper and electronic sources for searching, documenting, and communicating findings. Advance skills in (adult learning-based) instructional methods, facilitation of practical exercises, and assessment. Undergraduate and Graduate Education:
Major study -- safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines:
safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Specialized
Experience:

In addition to meeting the individual occupational requirement, Applicants must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the next lower level, GS-12. Specialized experience is described as
Experience:
Managing safety or occupational health program elements. Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards. Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards. Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. Work in occupational fields such as industrial hygienist, safety engineer, fire prevention engineer, health physicist, and occupational health nurse. Experience in performing complex industrial safety inspections involving Process Safety Management, Machine Guarding, Hazardous Materials, OR Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout). NOTE:
Such experience may be as inspection team leader or member performing inspection tasks, including evidence collection, interviewing and compliance program review. OR Certificates Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Health Physicist (CHP), or similar certification that included successful completion of a written examination meets the requirements for GS-5. Applicants may also qualify for higher grade levels based on their education and/or experience. Evaluation of
Experience:
Qualifying experience involves the recognition, evaluation, corrective actions, and elimination of environmental conditions in the workplace that causes sickness, impaired health, or illness. This experience must demonstrate a professional knowledge of the theory and application of the principles of industrial hygiene and closely related sciences such as physics and engineering controls. Such work must have involved experience in all of the following areas:
the acquisition of quantitative and qualitative data, and the measurement of exposures for a variety of chemical, physical, and biological stresses; the analysis of the data acquired and the prediction of probable effects of exposures on the health and well-being of workers; and the selection and recommendation of appropriate controls, including management, medical, engineering, education or training, and personal protective equipment.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
