Description Shift:
Full time, Days Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Director of Accounting directs the work of the corporate accounting function. This position coordinates with business leaders and staff to accurately record accounting data in a timely matter. The Director of Accounting's team executes all financial transactions for accounts payable, payroll, accounting, investments, tax and treasury. This position is responsible for financial statement and report preparation for NCH and Affiliates and the information systems activities that support financial reporting. 1. Manages the efforts of the Accounting Department by coordinating schedules and processes, allocating resources and directing staff. Directs the monthly general ledger closing process, including establishing and monitoring progress towards due dates. Coordinates the year-end closing process, including account reconciliation, physical inventory, fixed asset reporting, and review of judgmental accounting reserves. Reviews account reconciliations and ensures timely and appropriate follow-up of reconciling items. 2. Assumes responsibility for preparation and distribution of timely, accurate, and useful financial information to customers. Coordinates departmental efforts to meet or exceed deadlines established by the Leadership and Operations Teams. Directs the preparation of records as well as recurring and special reports and analyses. Reviews and interprets reports and analyses. Provides ad hoc financial analysis in response to user requests and noted trends in financial performance. Responds to inquiries from customers on financial information; works with customers to facilitate their understanding of accounting policies and financial reports. 3. Partners with appropriate individuals and departments in the development and implementation of financial accounting processes to ensure complete and accurate information reporting on an organization-wide basis. Participates in the development of plans for applications/system/technology which support decision-making. Participates in interdepartmental or multidisciplinary groups to ensure that the department's services are effectively integrated into the organization's system for delivering patient care and to enhance coordination of services. 4. Coordinates the fiscal year-end financial statement external audit. Collaboratively works with auditors to prepare a timeline to ensure the audit is completed timely. Ensures that all audit work papers are properly prepared and received on a timely basis. Addresses any audit questions on a timely basis. 5. Maintains accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP, regulations, and system standards. 6. Develops short and long term goals and the plans to accomplish agreed upon goals in consultation with superior. Assesses and recommends the resources that are needed to accomplish agreed upon goals. Develops annual business plans and budgets that reflect these needs. Secures approval of and manages departmental budgets in accordance with approved plan. 7. Directs program development and strategic planning for the Accounting Department. Assesses areas of opportunity for the growth of services and develops action plans to be integrated into business plans. Formulates policy for the departments' services and secures appropriate approvals. Develops and administers procedures and plans necessary to implement approved policy. Communicates all policy to employees and provides the overall direction necessary to ensure efficient and effective service. Maintains quality control programs as appropriate. Supports the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process by maintaining quality improvement standards including a periodic review of policies, procedures and treatment plans; measures customer expectations and communicates results to the appropriate personnel. 8. Interviews, hires, disciplines, and discharges (when necessary) subordinate personnel. Regularly evaluates the performance of personnel according to the guidelines of the hospital's performance management system. Ensures that employees are oriented to the department and hospital, including safety and infection control policies and procedures. Allocates time for education meetings. Plans and conducts in-service educational programs for subordinates, students, and other hospital personnel as necessary. Collaborates with others responsible for organization wide education to assure that learning needs are identified and addressed. 9. Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures. Qualifications 1 The level of knowledge normally obtained through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in business administration, public administration, or management. Master's degree in business, finance, or healthcare administration preferred. Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (FHFMA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred. 2. Minimum of five years relevant healthcare experience in a financial accounting role and at least five years in a supervisory/management role. 3. Expert knowledge of Microsoft office applications (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint) and financial accounting computer systems, Peoplesoft preferred. 4. The communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of hospital personnel, physicians, patients, and outside agencies. 5. The organizational skills necessary to complete detailed, accurate, and timely multiple projects and assignments. 6. The leadership skills necessary to direct staff, prioritize resources, set deadlines and monitor progress. 7. The analytical skills necessary to analyze complex sets of data, identify and explain variances, and provide input for development of actions plans. 8. The ability to use a personal computer to perform the representative functions of the job. 9. The ability to maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate overtime or peak periods. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
